Mum had been in and out of hospital since February 2024 with chest infections and pneumonia sometimes only having 4 days at home in between admissions. She was understandably fed up and distressed by this. Eddie and I were fighting with the drs and nurses to try and fet some treatment that might help keep infection at bay mum was helping by every time she saw a dr asking for long term antibiotics which we did get for her in the end. I was so proud of her and she was do brave trying to stand up to drs who has much more power than her.
Despite being so ill and being down mum still trued yo keep her sense of humour and try to cheer up the ward staff. But understandably she hated the food. Mum would sing songs to the staff and generally be lovely. She would ask us about what we had been up too and when I said I wouldn't see her for a few days as I would be off galavanting and she said "you go off and enjoy yourself I had a lot if fun when I was younger so enjoy it."
5 days before we said goodbye to mum we visited her in hospital I took her a trifle and she was overjoyed then Eddie arrived with a flask of hit chocolate and she was so happy she did an excited little dance in bed. And that is the way I choose yo remember her. Smiling and happy
5 days later after being home from hospital fir kess than 24 hours mums oxygen levels dropped and when she was given oxygen by the paramedics sge said very clearly that she didn't want yo ho back to hospital. She was brave again and we did what we could to make her comfortable at home and invited close family members yo say goodbye. With support from the palliative care team mum continued to be relaxed breathing on her own for 14 hours then at 8.30am surrounded by her loving family she said her final goodbye.
Love you always Mum. So proud of how hard you fought and how brave you were throughout your life.
